TUGGERS! Physical training is awesome...the Bible says it. HAHA. This one is pretty cool because everyone knows how much I like to work out and eat healthy! But then again it says that what we do here is SOOO temporary and even though it is good, it does not have eternal significance. A godly life does! We need to live lives that are "worthy of the calling" as it promises benefits in this life and for all eternity! Let's look forward to eternity and not focus so much on the things of this world!
16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome testimony to the power that one person can have on others by living a Christ centered life. Here it says that not only will you save yourself but also the lives of you hearers. This is awesome. However, he is also calling us to persevere in our lives and in our relationship with Christ. Even when we may be in a rough patch we must continue on and. When we feel overwhelmed by school and things we must preserver. Some wonderful encouragement for the 3 weeks before the break.
7-8 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness;for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
ReplyDeleteGodliness is of the utmost importance. We need to put aside the things that only matter in this world because the reality is that our time on this earth is but a blink of an eye when compared with eternity. What is of more importance? Eternity or our 60+ years on earth? We must choose to live for that which lasts and forgo that which is finite and temporary
[10] For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
ReplyDelete(1 Timothy 4:10 ESV)
Let me continuously be reminded of this sobering truth, that God is my hope, not myself. Pride so easily sets in doesn't it? We do not set our hope in ourselves. Thank GOD! we set our eyes on Jesus and place our hope in him.
4 "For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving"
ReplyDeleteI could not have said it better myself. Everything God created is good. From the plants and the trees to the bag of Doritos to the amazing game of basketball, everything that God has made is good. With that said, we should all give thanks to what God has made for us, but not become engulfed in it. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.
12 Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
ReplyDeleteThis is important for all of us as college age students being relativly young. We must through example and devotion show others that we are not any less because we are younger. This is not to say that we should rely on our actions and deed to propel how others think about us. But still the outward appearance has a large effect on other therefore we must live our lives not as youth but rather as sons and daughters of God.
All is good in Glenn
P.S. I somehow didn't see this when I checked yesterday.
1 Timothy 4:10
ReplyDeleteFor to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
______
I have always loved the expression, "The living God".
It connotes a being who is moving and acting and thinking and breathing, as opposed to one who just dwells. Truly, our God is one who is active and involved.
Beats the heck out of all of the other gods in this world.
Why would you not want to follow a god who lives and breathes and has plans, as opposed to one that is nothing more that what people make it to be?
14 "Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you."
ReplyDeleteGod has given us in varying amounts spiritual gifts to serve him and further the advancement of his kingdom. Now, personally, I am not 100% sure what my gift/gifts might be. However, it is important that we work to nurture our gift regardless of if we comprehend it 100%. The gifts can be different things, like the gift of administration or discipleship or teaching or even more esoteric ones like prophecy. I urge each of you to spend some time in meditation this week in an effort to help figure out in what aspect God has gifted you to serve His church.

10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God....
ReplyDeleteGod is what we live for. His will should be the focus of our life, not our plans. We should put our hope in God and trust that His will is the best for our lives. Sometimes when school gets hard I question what the purpose of this is and why I'm working so hard. I don't know exactly, but I know that it is in God's plan and I should stive to do my best and follow His will.
