Titus 3

7 Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.” 8 This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.

LOVE IT! I'm chose this one because it is very similar to the one I chose yesterday. It talks about eternal life and how knowing God's true promises and understanding his grace is what leads us to doing good...carrying out the works that are in his plan! Paul tells the people that he wants them to insist on teaching this message so that people will trust in God and do good! This is beneficial to everyone...do we understand that? Are we stepping out and sharing this amazing message we have been given?

  1. 9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

We are to preach Christ and him crucified. The Gospel is the only thing that can bring a dead soul back to life. Therefore what is more important to speak about? What should we be devoting our time to? There are so many times where we get wrapped up in discussions or debates about things that don't really matter. A person is not going to accept Christ because they were defeated in a debate. We do not have the power to change a person, only the word of God has that power, so let us speak the truth of the Gospel and let that be the focus of our interactions with others.

  2. 8 "This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone."

We are called to do what is good here by Paul because we have trusted in God to do good in us and with us. Sometimes, though, what is good is lost on us and we forget the deeper meaning behind doing good. With every action, we should be focusing on whether or not doing this thing will give glory to God and further His kingdom. That is the definition of "doing good" that Paul mentions here. I know personally that decisions I make are selfish at times and forget the what it means to do good. It's great to have this refresher.

  3. 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.

I find this verse to be so encouraging, that it's not by our own merit that we are saved but by God. I personally think its so cool to see where are scripture fundamental truths like these are, and how frequently appear. God most definitely gets His point across.

  4. 1 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

Dont hate people, do whatever is good, be kind and respectful to people do not be belligerent. This is Paul instructing us how to live according to Christs will. It is important though to not become carried away with these thing, yes they are important but they do not save us from the wrath we deserve. These things are part of a relationship with Christ but do not replace one. I feel that sometimes i find myself trying to do all of this good but forgetting the true reason why i am doing these things. Glory to God He is amazing.

  5. 3–8 It wasn’t so long ago that we ourselves were stupid and stubborn, dupes of sin, ordered every which way by our glands, going around with a chip on our shoulder, hated and hating back. But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, he saved us from all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit. Our Savior Jesus poured out new life so generously. God’s gift has restored our relationship with him and given us back our lives. And there’s more life to come—an eternity of life! You can count on this.(Message)

This section of the chapter jumped at me when I was reading it in the NLT and so I started reading it in other translations and I liked the messages wording. Its great to know thats even though we were stupid, separated from God we can still come back through the Savior Christ Jesus. He died and has now mended our relationship with God so that we may have a true relationship with the Creator God of the heavens and the Earth.

    All is Great in Christ

  6. 4-5 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteousness things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit"

Its amazing how much God loves us. His mercy is so vast that by mercy alone we are saved. No matter what we do, no matter how much or bad we sin we are forgiven (this does not mean sin your lives away, just that when we slip up we are forgiven). Though we are not saved by our works, faith without good works isn't much. So when Paul says that we are not saved by what we do, he is correct but we should still understand we are called to serve others and live as Christ did.

We should do good works; everyone should do good works, believers and nonbelievers. It is good to do good. Out good works shouldn't be limited to service projects or "philanthropy" either. Those are good and have their place, but doing good works is something done on a daily basis and should be an integral part of our lives.

  8. 7 So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

This points out a very major point that many times we overlook or take for granted. It is by God's grace alone that we have hope of eternal life. By ourselves, we are sinful people who often disobey God's commands, but it is by his grace that we are still offered eternal life with him that exceeds anything this earth has to offer.
