1 But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves.

This verse reminded me of what I just read in Jeremiah a couple days ago. There were false prophets in his time that were preaching prosperity left and right. People were living aweful lives and still were being told that it was okay and that judgement wasn't going to come down on them...this was ridiculous and Jeremiah knew it and tested them. Eventually Jeremiah prophesied over their deaths and they died shortly after. We have many false prophets preaching the awful Prosperity Gospel today and it is so sad to see. They are brainwashing our society, telling everyone that everything is going to be okay...when people don'to want to change their walks. Which Gospel are we living under? What are our intentions? The Lord knows our hearts...let us come to know him more and more so we can teach and proclaim the Gospel of grace!
9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,
ReplyDeleteGod knows how to take care of His children. He is a holy, righteous God who preserves His children and destroys His enemies. He is in complete control over every situation and we need to trust Him in that. Therefore, let us rest in Him in every circumstance because of His Holiness, Righteousness, and Sovereignty
9 "if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment while continuing their punishment"
ReplyDeleteGod is in control of all of our lives. He knows what is best for us as well as those around us. At any moment when we believe that we are unable to pass one of the trials of life He can snatch us up and carry us through our burdens. This verse states that God helps the godly and righteous and punishes the evil and unrighteous. We do not need to worry about what will happen to the unrighteous. It is not our place to punish them, but knowing that God handles all and we will receive what we will from God based on our actions.
v19-20 "They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first."
ReplyDeleteRecently I've been reminded of the power we have in Christ to say NO to sin. This verse reminds me of the real power of sin and it's gripping power apart from Christ and his Spirit. Also, the sadness of the fact that we who know Christ and still sin are knowingly rebelling against his revealed goodness to us.
