2 Thessalonians 1

8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.
----------
I know this one is a bit morbid today...but do we really believe that the people who don't know about Christ will burn in the flaming fire of God's judgement for all eternity. Worse than that...do we really realize that they will be separated from the very presence of God entirely?! We need to spread the gospel...we need to spread the truth! Some will refuse it, of course...but people need to know...how will they know, if we don't tell them!

Love you guys!

  1. 4: "Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring."

Faith and perseverance push us through trial and suffering. When we are faced with situations beyond our control, we should always realize that God IS in control of it, and we will be okay. He has not and never will forget us. We need to trust God's timing and grow in faith and endurance.

  2. He will come with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.

My reaction to this section causes me to pray for intercession in the lives of all people I know that don't know the Lord. I do not want them to be separated from the perfect and almighty lord for eternity. A sense of urgency arises in my soul to speak to the broken and build relationships to glorify the lord and extend his name.

    I love these verses.

  3. 2 Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is not necessarily a moving verse, however it is very cool to see this as Pauls signature quote. He says this to begin and ends with

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

In most all of the letters he writes. It is cool to see that it is the first and last thing he says, Grace and Peace to you in our Lord Jesus Christ. And we do have grace and peace in him.

  4. 2 Thessalonians 2:5

This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering

This post will be short and sweet: if you are not suffering for the kingdom of God, you are lot living according to the Bible.

  5. 6-7 "God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels."

Whatever troubles come our way, we must not go against God. There are those in our lives who give us grief and make our days stressful. It is important to remember that everything is in His hands and that we should not take what we think is "justice" into our own. It says that God will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and that He will give relief to those that are troubled. As long as we know this then revenge is something we should not try to achieve as Christian men. We are taught to turn the other cheek and on the day of judgement we will all be judged accordingly by God.

  6. 11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.

I like the part where it says that God may make us worthy of his calling. I think it puts into perspective that we are not doing God any favors by worshipping him or staying up late to read his word and post about it; it's actually for our own benefit and well being. It might seem to me like i'm sacrificing sleep to do this but in the end sleep is so ephemeral while God is eternal; so the choice is obvious. I just hope I'm worthy.

  7. 6 God is just: he will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well.

This is a simple yet comforting statement. God is on our side as long as we let him direct our lives. If we simply put our full trust in him, he will see to it that we are given rest at the end of our race, and that those who would seek to turn us away from him are unsuccessful.

  8. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

While it is heartbreaking to think about how there are people who spend eternity in Hell even though they have never been told about Jesus, it is extremely comforting to know that we serve a God that is perfectly just. God is so perfect that he literally cannot be in the presence of sin, and, because he is just, has to punish it. Because of this, we never have to worry about sin against us going unpunished. Hopefully the person has or will accept Christ, and He pays for he sin, or the person will ultimately pay for it themselves. Either way, the sin will be made right.

  9. 11 "With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith."

I think this is an awesome example of how we would be edifying each other. We should actively endeavor to see that each other built up in a way that we become an embodiment of God's will for us. Praying for each other selflessly is one way which we can build each other up behind the scenes, but we also need to be actively engaging in each other's lives.

  10. 9-10 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

We, who are in Christ, get to experience both the presence of God and the glory of his might in our salvation and redemption. These verses should provide a sobering look into the alternative. This should motivate us to preach the Gospel wherever God leads us throughout the course of our life. Who are we to not share the wonderful good news we have with each and every person. If we truly love people we will testify of God's redemption through Jesus Christ.
