Disobedience is directly related to unbelief. Yes, we are not saved by our being "good", trusting in our own strength and "righteous" acts, but it is evident here that our good deeds is a result of our belief in God and what He has done for us! I tell my D-Group this all the time....if we were to fully believe in what God has done for us, we would without struggle/fault follow his commandments every second of our lives! Let's dig in and ask God to give us a deeper and better understanding of what He has done and who He is... so we may continue to obey him every day of our lives!
13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
ReplyDeleteWe must be constantly striving to encourage and exhort our brothers in Christ out of sin. This is something so important that we cannot rest, we must not rest. There is a really good quote:
"Your best friend is the one who tells you the most truth." We must be constantly speaking truth into the lives of our brothers so that they might not be hardened by sin. Are we doing that?
As has just been said:
ReplyDelete“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”
Do not harden your hearts. I feel like so often will just not be open to the things Christ is doing. I will just dismiss it as coincidence. He says here that when we harden our hearts we will become disobedient.
Heb 3:3
ReplyDelete3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
During this chapter Paul is reasoning with Jews by giving this argument that Jesus is Greater than Moses. Moses was one of if not the most important old testiment character because he took the Israelites out of captivity. Now the Jews of Christs day were looking for another savior to lead them out from under the rule of the Romans. Paul was showing them that Jesus as the Son of God was so much greater then Moses. I also love the second section of this chapter as it steps through psalm 95 which talks about the Israelites falling away after just a few years in the desert. My prayer is that we do not fall away from the Lord and not enter into the rest of the lord.
All is Great in Christ
13 "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness."
ReplyDeleteWe are called to encourage one another in multiple ways. We need to encourage our brothers to spend their quiet times daily, to read God's word, and to go to church on Sunday's. Encouraging others in their faith will also help yourself grow. By setting this example and encouraging others you will become stronger as well. By turning our brothers away from sin and hardened hearts we become closer to Christ.
Hebrews 3:19
ReplyDeleteSo we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

Doesn't it seem incredible to you that the Israelites saw Moses part the Red Sea, and received bread from heaven every morning, yet still found a way to not believe in the sovereignty of God?
It shouldn't seem that incredible to you.
Our lives are exactly like that. God has done great things in all of our lives. I firmly believe that there is no darkness, but when we shut our eyes to the light, and this applies to any disbelief we have in God. Our worries and complaints are nothing but a rejection of the sovereignty of God that comes from shutting our eyes to the great work he has done in our lives.
Hold firm to your faith in Christ Jesus.
18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
ReplyDeleteGod offers those rest who seek him. He is called the Prince of Peace for a reason, not that it is just some glorious words of adoration, but these words are surely true. But one whose heart is wholly devoted to the Father may find rest, not one who does not beleive. To them there will be no relief in their misery on this earth or after it. God is the only one who can bring a peace, or a lack of fear of circumstance or the unkown which we cannot understand. He understands us. He does not need rest, but we do, and we know the only way to finding joy and rest is to meditate on the truth of his promises of love, grace, truth, and peace.
4 "For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything."
ReplyDeleteI think this verse is really cool because it made me pause and reflect on "the house" that God has built. What a huuuuuge house it is.....It's filled with beautiful things that show God's love for us. Beyond that though, it makes me think how God deemed it right to carve out a little niche for us. On top of that, this verse makes me dream of what the house that God has built in heaven looks like. We're told we'll have mansions and we can read about descriptions of the throne room of God and other important tourist stops in heaven. It makes me that much more thankful for the chance God has given me to dwell with him when at last I'm laid to rest.
