10 For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws. 11 For the same God who said, “You must not commit adultery,” also said, “You must not murder.”t So if you murder someone but do not commit adultery, you have still broken the law.---------------------------------------------------------
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". These verses show how this is possible. Some people might think they have everything together in one area of their spiritual lives, but we all know that no one is perfect in all areas of life. We don't have EVERYTHING under control. These verses in James show us that if we stumble in one area in our lives, we stumbled in all of them. God wants us to be pure and holy....the following are some definitions of the word "Holy":
Set apart to the service or worship of God; hallowed; sacred; reserved from profane or common use; holy vessels; a holy priesthood. Spiritually whole or sound; of unimpaired innocence and virtue; free from sinful affections; pure in heart; godly; pious; irreproachable; guiltless; acceptable to God.
God wants our everything to be devoted and sanctified for Him! Let's always remember the grace and mercy that God has on us even though we definitely come short of His glory!
12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty.
ReplyDeleteJames is echoing the teachings of Jesus Christ in Matthew 7 in this chapter. James is saying that a true belief in Jesus will transform a person's life. So in vs 12, James is saying that if you have been set free by the law of liberty, then you will speak and act accordingly. Do our lives reflect our faith in Jesus Christ? Because, they will if we have been resurrected and renewed. This chapter raises some weighty and important questions
4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?
ReplyDeleteThis verse really spoke to me today. Do I have an attitude of, as verse 1 says, "personal favoritism"? God calls us to spread the Gospel to all nations, not just the people we want to spread the gospel to, or the people we are comfortable around, or our friends. In doing this, we judge those with whom we neglect to share the gospel. That's a job that is God's alone.
26 "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead."
ReplyDeleteThis tells us right here that faith without works is nothing. Just believing is nothing without backing it up and living the way you are supposed to. When we accept Christ, we are reborn and we should act that way. Born into a new life for the Lord and honoring him with our actions.
