1 John 1
7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
--This is just an awesome verse talking about the assurance we have o fellowship with Christ! If we live in the light of the Lord, we will follow his purpose for our lives!
v. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
We are to reflect God's perfection. Therefore, we obviously can not live in outward, obvious sin, but must also not be living in deception, hiding certain sins. I have noticed personally that there is a direct correlation to interpersonal relationships, not to mention slapping Jesus in the face, and when I am living with a sin, especially sin that I try to hide. But praise the Lord, on the other side of the spectrum, the fellowship with God and others is so liberating when I am walking in the light! Jesus is King!
4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
We are to preach the truth ultimately because that is what will bring God the glory He deserves with our life and because he commands it. However, a incredible byproduct of obedience to the command of God to bring Him glory through taking His Word to all nations is this "that our joy may be made complete." So many non-Christians and Christians alike believe that obedience should not be fun...that it should be boring and joyless. John says quite the opposite, that his joy is completed through the preaching of the Word of God to the nations.
John is saying that it is in our absolute best interest to obey God because when we do we will experience lives that are better than we could have ever dreamed...our joy will be made complete. This does not mean that life will be easy, only that life will be better. What incredible truth!
3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
I picked these two because they give a very important message. In the first section they are writing about the Father and Son. And how they are now commiting to following them, it then goes on to say that they write these thing to make their joy complete.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
What an awesome promise! We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but Christ is the propitiation for our sins, and those of the whole world! (Romans 3:23, 1 John 2:2) Even after we are saved we sin (vs. 8, 10) but Christ has payed for it all, and if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive them and cleanse us all over again. Awesome!
7 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin."
What a comforting verse! I see that it is very popular with everyone in the blog and for good reason. God is the light and when we are in darkness He rescues us. Light purifies darkness and eliminates it just as Jesus did to our sins with His blood. That is what this verse is talking about. That Jesus is the light and he has overpowered our sin and washed us clean. It warms my heart just thinking about it!
