14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

I love this! This, I believe, is the answer to the question about having faith and moving mountains...will they really move? Do we really have the faith they don't move? I think that we have to ask ourselves....is it really pleasing to God that the mountain would move? What glory does it bring to Him, except an massive earthquake that might kill people. Honestly, when we pray, we will be answered only when we are within God's will. When we seek his voice and honor him with our decisions and thought processes. We need to ask for anything that pleases Him--this is when He will answer us. IT is when we have communion with God that we fully get to experience this unity with God that allows us to know what pleases God and make request of Him that are within His will! And when we are that close to God, we will know and trust that He will provide what we ask for!
v.21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
ReplyDeleteThis verse is so profound to me and something that I will need to hear for the rest of my life, no matter how much I "mature." In light of the chapter and Christ's supremacy as the only way to the Father, I need to guard relentlessly against any other thing that might come and steal my heart away in place of Christ. I know that I am safe in Christ, but momentarily I can stray away as my heart wanders after lesser things. This is my prayer.
v5 "Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God"
ReplyDeletev11 "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son"
I absolutely love this pair of verses. Sin hasn't overcome the world. Prideful sinners have not overcome the world. Satan has not overcome the world. Only believers overcome the world. I want to know that when I talk to people. I want to know that when I see something wrong and am too scared to do anything about it. I want to tell people my testimony: that God gives eternal life, and that the life is in his son. It is so simple, but it conquers the world because it has God with it. Thats awesome. Thats what my life should be for
1 John 5:21 NIV
ReplyDelete"Dear Children, keep yourselves from idols"
Just as MJ said this verse is profound to me. Especially its positioning in the Chapter. It is the last verse of 1 John. I feel like that fact give the verse even more significance. Not only is it an important truth but he is saying as a concluding remark, as if it is the most important thing. I agree that it is extremely important. I have countless idols in my life. School, music, and food among other things. I guess my prayer moving fore-ward is that Christ could help me keep myself from these idols. I know that i cannot do it on my own. Only with the power of Christ can this sin in my life be defeated. God is Good
14-15 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredibly powerful verse! The first question that must be asked is this: "Do you know the will of God?" Because it says if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us and answers us. So do we know His will?
I think a lot of people would say that they do not? They sit and ask God to reveal His will to them so that they may live in it...God has revealed His will, it is called the Bible (The Word of God). The Word of God is completely sufficent. We need nothing else. Are you immersing yourself in God's Word?
If we are saturated in the Word of God, then the word will be constantly changing, shaping, and molding us. So that our will begins to align with God's will. Instead of saying that we want this or that to happen in our lives...we begin to pray, "Your will be done."
Are we asking for things within the will of God or not?
