2 Peter 1

3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
-----------------------------------------
First off, the reason I selected yesterday's verse is because it is in one of my favorite songs..."He will carry you". Today's verse is also in a song that I really like: "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness!" This verse is so amazing...it talks about the transfiguration of a Christian soul. It demonstrates where our motivation comes from--our motivation to do well and pursue Christ and do good in the name of Christ. The fruits of the spirit in our lives will be evident when we truly come to know God by acknowledging his marvelous glory and excellence and his great promises which he has give us. This entails loving God for who He is and for what He has done! When we allow this to sink in our natural/sinful humanly desires fade and are replaced with godliness! I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for this very fact!

  1. V.9 "For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins."

This verse stuck out to me because it reminds me all to clearly of myself. I am learning that if I am not pursuing the qualities listed above, then I start living outside of reality and fall back into a state of legalism. Virtue and knowledge of foundational. Furthermore, brotherly affection and love are incredibly practical, helping me stay Gospel centered.

  2. 19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

This verse is so poetic but yet powerful in what it says. It is saying that God is with us through the night, i take this to mean our time here or earth, but when it is all through we have something 10000 times better. This is a verse that helps me to persevere or to push though when i feel like i am in a dark place. Just like tonight. There is this crazy storm going on outside tonight but in the morning there will be peace and comfort that comes with the light. It is just so dagum beautiful, this verse applies to me so many times, just awsome.

  3. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

Do we share this attitude with Peter? He strove with every fiber of his being to see the body of Christ around him built up in the faith, assure of their salvation, and pursuing Christ more fully. Peter did not waste a second of his life so that after he had died, the body of Christ would continue to grow and build itself up for the glory of God. That is sacrificial living. Do we live with this mindset?

  4. 8 The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.

While reading this passage last night I this verse caught my eye and I have been meditating on it over the past day. As slaves of Christ Jesus we want to be fully equipt to do the work of the Lord. I want my life to be productive and useful for the lords will. As I break the "ideals" presented starting at 5, I am stunting my growth. Personally I am stopping the ability of the Lord to use me for his Kingdom. Therefore, I urge you brothers in light in the sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to "make every effort to respond to God’s promises".

  5. 8 "For if you posses these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

When reading this chapter I found that all of these qualities are so essential to our lives and our spiritual growth. Goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love all help us grow with our relationship with God as well as His children. And it says that if we keep these qualities we will be kept from unproductive knowledge of Jesus. So I encourage all of us to uphold these qualities as well as encourage others to do the same so that we may all grow in our knowledge of Christ.
