2 Peter 3

9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
15 And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved.
-------------------------
The Lord is patient with us. We may ask, why are we still here suffering in this world. Why hasn't Jesus come back although his coming was prophesied ~2000 years ago? I think this chapter holds the answer...the Lord is patient and wants more and more people to join Him in heaven. He wants everyone to have time to know the Gospel! He wants everyone to know the truth! Why is He patient with us even though we don't deserve it?...all I know is that it is a beautiful thing. A day is like a thousand years to our Lord and a thousand like a day! Understanding God's mercy and patience with us makes me love Him more and more everyday! If you think about it in there terms...every day that passes is another day that more souls got saved and will join us in heaven!

  1. 11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,

At the end of days, God will send a fire to consume all that is not eternal. Everything which we wrongly placed our hope in other than God will pass away. Knowing this, we must become ever more focused on the things of eternal significance as Peter says, "holiness and godliness." Are we more focused on the things that will perish or on the things that are everlasting, namely God?

  2. v.11-13 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

While false teachers are distracting us, trying to make us forget truth, I must constantly be in the Word reminding myself of God's revealed plan of redemption. And, in light of that, I must live out my life in accordance with these truths.

  3. 9 "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, everyone to come to repentance."

It is so hard for us to understand all the things God does in our lives. Mainly because we are not suppose to understand God. He is patient with us which is just awesome because we fall short of him every day. Though through our faults he still wants all of us to be saved and not parish. That is why He sent His Son, to save us all regardless of what we have done.
